Danny Breen is 55 years old and was born on Prospect Street in downtown St. John’s. He is the youngest of 7 children of Peter Breen, Longshoreman, and Kitty Breen. He is a graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland with a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Political Science), and is currently the Vice President of Jenkins Anthony Inc., a Newfoundland and Labrador-based employee benefit consulting firm.
Danny was first elected to St. John’s City Council in the fall of 2009, and was re-elected by acclamation in 2013. He represents Ward 1, which encompasses the East end of St. John’s.
While on council Danny has served as Chair of the Public Works Committee, Chair of the Audit and Accountability Committee, and Chair of the Finance and Administration Committee. He is currently the Chair of the St. John’s Sport Event Partnership and Chair of the Finance Committee of the Eastern Regional Services Board. He also served in the past as the council representative on the Board of Directors of St. John’s Sports and Entertainment (Mile One Centre).
Danny has served on the National Board of Directors of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, and was actively involved in several school councils. He was also the President of the Avalon Minor Hockey Association and a member of the Board of Directors of the Murphy Centre.
Danny and his wife Ann have two children, Erika (Tony Hearn) and Katie (Matthew Oates) and one granddaughter, Kyla Hearn.
